TWME is designed to help faculty write better objective
type test questions.

The instructional DVD included in the Kit reviews the NCLEX test plan, and the implications this has for writing test items for nursing students.

The DVD includes a discussion about Bloom's taxonomy of cognitive levels. There are many suggestions about how to write test items that meet the criteria for well-written questions. There are tips on how to word questions, and things to avoid that either make questions a low cognitive level, or make them "give away" questions that the test-wise student can get correct.

A question should be written so that knowledge and judgement are necessary to answer it correctly.

The TWME Kit is designed to help the item writer get started on writing questions. It does not automatically write questions.

The Kit includes color coded stems that help the item writer to write questions from different steps in the nursing process. When the nursing process is used, questions will more likely be written at an application and analysis level. NCLEX is no longer writing new items at the knowledge and comprehension cognitive levels.
